Party of 6

Adventuring and traveling with a family of 6

It’s What Temperature?!

I know lots of places get colder than we did, but whoa how crazy it was to see negative temperatures for days in a row. Cold temps aside, we got out there and explored Alaska’s winter wonderland.

We got to do lots and lots of sledding.

Playing on the playground Alaskan style.

We all started out on snowboards this season. About half way through, 4 of us realized our strength was in sking, so we switched to downhill skis. We had a lot of fun learning how to snowboard and ski. We especially liked the snacks in the lodge.

We tried out ice fishing. Just like our experience with fishing not in the ice, we didn’t catch anything, but a very cool experience. When else would you have hot cocoa and fish at the same time?

One of my personal favorites we learned, and I am outnumbered on this one, is cross-country sking. Izzy and I got to do a woman’s race together, which was awesome. Only in Alaska would there be a moose on the course. The closest I have ever been to these massive creatures.

We hiked Thunderbird Falls several times this winter. It still amazes me to see a waterfall almost completely frozen over.

It is April, and we still have days that it snows, and there is still snow in the future forecast. As much as we have enjoyed embracing snow sports and activities we are looking forward to the spring season.
