After visiting historical landmarks and major cities in Egypt, we headed to the coastal city of Hurghada, and spotted a truck of camels on our way there.

We stayed at an all inclusive resort that was very nice and clean. The resort had over 60 slides, lots of pools, food options all day and night, VR room, bikes, a midway with carnival rides, a sucker station, and all you can eat ice cream. It was a welcomed break. Don’t worry though, it wasn’t without it’s hagglers trying to sell you things.

We got to go play out in the desert on 4-wheelers and dune buggies. We got to ride camels and learn about life in outlying villages in Egypt. We got to see lizards and monkeys that stole suckers right out of the kid’s pockets (from the never-ending sucker station at the hotel) and hold a baby lion.

We enjoyed a spa treatment while at the resort. The girls got facials, manicures, and pedicures. The (kid) boys got fresh hair cuts and a mini-facial.

We went on a speed boat ride out in the Red Sea to go snorkeling and play on the beach. The water was beautiful, the fish were pretty, and being back in the sand was awesome.

Okay, so now the story behind our beach day. We got into the taxi on time. We get into the car and and ask the driver how long, he says about 15 minutes. We started driving and he takes us down a side street (we are assuming so we can see the town, which like most Egyptian towns is trashy literally). After completing a square, we get back on the main road. He then stops at a market and Egyptian parks, which means where ever you want to, to include right in front of other cars. He says he will be back in 2 minutes. 15 minutes later and after Steve moves the driver’s car so someone could get out of their parking spot, he was back. We then get to the boat dock after 35 minutes. A young boy, maybe 17 year old, is our “captain.” He doesn’t speak English. He takes us out to the snorkle area and then the beach. He pulls the boat up into the sand. When we go to leave, because he parked the boat all the way in the sand, there is sand in the motor. Not a great combination. He leaves, but can’t get the boat in gear. We wave another boat down and he pulls us back toward the beach. He then attaches us to a big boat in the sea, so he can “fix” it. He calls someone and they try to help him fix it. He uses a knife, the one he used to cut fruit we ate, that our driver picked up at the market on our way there. He finally gets it in gear to drive, but only at an idling speed. 3 hours later at 3 km an hour. We made it back to the resort. Whew, it was an adventure.

We wrapped up our stay at the resort with a 6 person bicycle ride and photo session with a few of the random characters. We researched how in the world the resort was able to use Disney, Pixar, DreamWorks, ect characters and it said it was really hard to enforce copyright laws on this continent.
