Party of 6

Adventuring and traveling with a family of 6

Idstein, Germany

Our next day trip took us to a town with a dark history. It is first mentioned in the year 1102. It was part of the witch trials in 1676, and the Kalmenhof Institution originally a home for people with disabilities, become a place where “unfit” people and “racial hygene” took place during WWII. However, in March of 1945, US troops entered, and the town was eventually rebuilt and restored.

But, before exploring the town, we had to try a new bakery.

The town is known for its medieval half-timbered architecture.

There seem to be fountains in every town we visit as well, and this town was no exception. Our pups even had a drink from it.

There was an absolutly beautiful flower garden in the town.

But the highlight was definitely the Hexenturm (Witches’ Tower). Despite its name, it had nothing to do with the witch trials, but that didn’t stop the kids (and Steven) from having fun with it.

There were a lot of stairs to climb.

The day ended with a German lunch. (Not pictured: ice cream at 10am earlier in the day ๐Ÿ˜€)

We had an awesome day exploring Idstein.
