We began our trip to the Netherlands in Lelystad, a city in the north-central part of the country. Here, the first thing we did was race go-karts.

We then visited Hans and Gretel Pancake House. The resteraunt is a whole experience in itself. It is designed like the folk tale Hansel and Gretel. The whole outside was a playground, the inside had hidden nooks and cranies to play in, and the floor moved randomly.

The next morning we headed to Keukenhof. It is one of the largest flower gardens in the world with over 7 million flowers, mostly tulips that bloom in the spring and it was one of my top things to see in Europe. It was amazingly beautiful! We had a picnic lunch, the kids did a scavenger hunt, and discovered tulip colors have names. I am sure by the end of the day everyone was tired of me saying “Look how beautiful,” “That color is pretty,” and “Do you smell how lovely it smells?” Get ready for flower picture overload.

We also got to see the annual flower parade.

The next day we spent the day in Amsterdam. We rode bikes into the city.

We stopped for pancakes at the Pancake House.

Next stop was the Upside Down. Here we took lots of pictures at different photo stops.

A trip to Amsterdam is not complete without a trip to get stroopwaffles, especially warm freshly made ones.
