We traveled to the southwestern edge of NC to visit Gorges State Park. Once we arrived we set up camp. We saw a timber rattlesnake on our way back from the bathroom and had a toad at our campsite.

The best way to start your morning.

The next morning we set out on our first hike of the trip to Rainbow Falls. The round-trip total was 4 miles. Along the trail we found an area that the kiddos (and Steve) used as a slide. Then ended at Rainbow Falls. We then traveled a bit up the trail to Turtleback Falls.  Steve, Izzy, and Ry went up to the top and slid down the waterfall

We headed back to the campsite for lunch then off we went to our next hike, Bearwallow Falls which was 3 miles round trip. Along the hike was a storybook to be read.

We had walking tacos and apple cobbler baked over the fire.

The next morning we drove to the next town over, Brevard. The Pisgah National Forest hosts more beautiful waterfalls. The first one we came to was Looking Glass Falls.

The next waterfall was Moore Cove Falls.

The last waterfall we visited was Sliding Rock. At this waterfall, you can pay to slide down the waterfall. The water was “take your breath away” cold, but fun nonetheless. A God-made slide.

After visiting waterfalls, we took a break from camp food and had pizza and ice-cream in town. We also went to a gem mining place. The kids loved sifting through the sand to find natural treasures.

We headed back to Gorges State Park and the kiddos turned in their Junior Ranger books to get their badge.

On our way out we stopped by what we thought was a new park to us, Crowders Mountain State Park. We began the hike to Pinacle Peak and began to recognize the scenary. Turns out, we have already hiked this park, but it was still just as beautiful.

We got cleaned up and went to eat, get ice-cream, picked up toys for the pups, and had fun giving piggy-back rides.
